Here we are. 15 Trillion in debt and the world has not broken.

How is this possible? Why haven't we entered hyper-inflation? Or massive civil war? Or deflation?

We have 7 billion people on earth. They are all hungry, need shelter, safety and quality of life. What does that mean? They are all willing to work to the bone to maintain or improve their current condition.

How can we on planet earth sustain a multi-trillion dollar economy?

The answer is obvious. People will always demand money and debt to keep alive. Infinitely.

Capitalism allows the few who control the distribution of work, money and debt to also control the supply of work, money and debt.

The debt never needs to be repaid in full. It only needs to be maintained at the lowest marginal rate. The lowest interest rate. At the shortest term. One day. The over-night lending rate.

Facebook has been cited as the prime reason for the recent American recession. Facebook has spread faster than the ebola virus infecting even users without computers. Children grow up in a world defined by Facebook. This aggressive strain F1B1 is reprogramming human beings down to the last strand in their DNA. As the previous generation had television programming, now we have Facebook programming.

Perception is not truth.

When someone decides that truth is the ultimate achievement of man; then science, reality, or perception, is not enough. One needs to be patient.

History is a graveyard of brilliant minds who relished in their discovery of truth in their time. (Copernicus, Galileo, and even Einstein) Only to be succeeded by the next brilliance who had the luxury of more experience on the base of multiple sources of evidence.

What humbleness allows is forgiveness. If there is a 'fact' found, a humble person will describe it, test it, accept opinions. And allow criticism.

Truth is continually a distant artifact.

Evidence and the relentless collection of evidence brings us closes to a truth. Our generation is only a fact gathering piece that brings more truth to the collective that is humanity.

Buy high quality tools, so you only have to buy them once.
Keep a change of clothes at the office.
Never hit anyone unless they are an immediate threat.
Every hat should serve a purpose.
Never take her to the movies on the first date.
Learn to wet shave.
Nothing looks more badass than a well-tailored suit.
Shave with the grain on the first go-around.
Always look a person in the eye when you talk to them.
Buy a plunger before you need a plunger.
Exercise makes you happy. Run, lift, and play sports.
Brush your teeth before you put on your tie.
A small amount of your paycheck should go directly to your savings account every month.
Call Mom and Dad every week.
Never wear a clip-on tie.
Give a firm handshake.
Compliment her shoes.
Never leave a pint unfinished.
If you aren’t confident, fake it. It will come around.
You can tell the size of a man by the size of things that bother him.
Be conscious of your body language.

Startups focus on speed since they are burning cash every day as they search for product/market fit. But over time code/hardware written/built to validate hypotheses and find early customers can become unwieldy, difficult to maintain and incapable of scaling. These shortcuts add up and become what is called technical debt. And the size of the problem increases with the success of the company.

You fix technical debt by refactoring, going into the existing code and “cleaning it up” by restructuring it. This work adds no features visible to a user but makes the code stable and understandable.

The Modeler’s Hippocratic Oath

I will remember that I didn’t make the world, and it doesn’t satisfy my equations.

Though I will use models to boldly estimate value, I will not be overly impressed by mathematics.

I will never sacrifice reality for elegance without explaining why I have done so.

Nor will I give the people who use my model false comfort about its accuracy. Instead I will make explicit its assumption and oversights.
